Warm vs. Cold is a series about imbalance.

Not good versus bad. Not right versus wrong. But the quiet yet familiar tension between someone who reaches and someone who withdraws.

​

The figures in this work are not portraits of specific people. They are embodiments of emotional states. Warmth and coldness take on human form so they can be seen, felt, and recognized. The bodies remain consistent while the situations change, because the dynamic itself is what repeats.

​

This series comes from lived experience, but it is not a confession. It is an observation. Over time, I began to notice how connections exist without balance: in relationships, situationships, talking stages, unlabeled love, unrequited love, and even in older generations where emotional distance was normalized or enforced. The language changes across generations, but the pattern does not.

Warmth is not innocent. Coldness is not cruel. Both are human responses.

One reaches because it hopes. The other retreats because it cannot, does not know how, or is simply standing somewhere else emotionally. What interests me is not resolution, but the space where connection almost happens and fails quietly.

As the series expanded through Dazzling Edition, the focus shifted beyond imbalance itself. What began as an examination of emotional distance became an exploration of understanding. The later works ask what remains after the tension has been recognized and reflected upon. They are less concerned with who was right and more concerned with what can be learned from the experience.

​

I chose not to name the figures or assign them fixed identities so the viewer can step into either role. The work is not asking who you were with; it is asking where you have been. Most people who have experienced closeness, longing, uncertainty, or emotional imbalance will recognize themselves somewhere in this series without being told where to look.

Warm vs. Cold does not offer answers. It offers recognition.

If the work feels uncomfortable, it is because it is familiar. If it feels hopeful, it is because understanding often begins in the same place.
